Our client had a traditional spillway water feature that needed an upgrade. This consisted of a pool with a recirculating pump that returned a flat sheet of water from a stainless steel spillway. This is a common design in English gardens. Often combined with other rectilinear features like rills, pools and retaining walls/beds.
Why did we update this water feature?
The feature was no longer aesthetically pleasing. It had:
- A visible pump, pipes and light unit.
- Was filling with algae, duckweed, dirt and debris.
- Was stagnant if left off for a while.
How did we enhance this water feature?
- Drain and clean the feature.
- Remove the pond kit; pump and light.
- Apply a protective membrane.
- Level the base with aggregate.
- Apply a separating membrane.
- Cut Aquablox to fit.
- Adjust a block to hold the pump.
- Apply a Geo-grid mesh.
- Cover with decorative pebble.
- Reposition the light.
- Fill with water.
- Commission the feature.
Upgraded water feature results.
After the water feature upgrade visit we now have a clean and fresh look. The reduced water volume held in a concealed reservoir keeps the water fresher. The pebble dressing keeps it clean by preventing debris collecting in the water. The light has been re-positioned to highlight the spillway.
